Dear Jack,
Please answer a question for me...
I did a guy recently w/out a condom. I am scared now that I caught
something (he said there is nothing to catch)...you being a bareback
top, what is my risk? I looked around your site (all the time) but
couldn't find a specific answer....

Dear Nick,
Since you didn't happen to mention whether you were the top or the bottom in this particular
encounter, the only option I have is to quote from a National Institute of Health chart that
came out about a year ago:
According to this chart, the risk assessment for contracting HIV is as follows...
For bottoms engaging in unprotected sex without taking the load:
1 in 1,500 to 1 in 8,500.
For bottoms engaging in unprotected sex and taking the load:
1 in 325 to 1 in 750
For tops engaging in unprotected sex, load or no load given:
1 in 411,000.
Sucking dick and swallowing the load (assuming no open sores or gum disease):
1 in 7,500 to 1 in 12,300
Intraveinous drug injection (dirty needles):
1 in 150
The chart also gives statistic risks for fatalities in the following non-sexual situations:
Sky Diving:
1 in 920
Bungee Jumping:
1 in 800
7,000 miles in an automobile:
1 in 56,000
7,000 miles on a motorcycle:
1 in 22,000
It is also mentioned on the chart that these factors take into account that your partner is already
HIV infected. Additionally, this data does not account for the use of lube with nonoxynol-9.
I hope this answers your question,
~Bareback Jack.
